CAFOD Syria-Turkey Earthquake Appeal

For more information about the Scripture Study Group and to view previous sessions, click here.

CAFOD is responding with support of provision of food, water, shelter, medical assistance and winter kits for survivors. Your donations in recent months have made that quick response possible. Let us join CAFOD in praying for our sisters and brothers affected by the earthquakes and the winter weather. Your support for CAFOD throughout the year allows our Catholic agency to act quickly when disasters strike. For more details visit CAFOD’s Syria Turkey Emergency Appeal online at https://cafod.org.uk/give.

Becoming a Fairtrade Church

Following the success of using fair trade products for refreshments during Advent, Holy Cross will now move towards being a ‘Fairtrade church’. This means that all tea, coffee and sugar that we serve in the halls must have the Fair Trade mark on their packets.

  • Fairtrade is a system of certification that aims to ensure a set of standards are met in the production and supply of a product or ingredient.
  • For farmers and workers, Fairtrade means workers’ rights, safer working conditions and fairer pay.
  • For shoppers it means high quality, ethically produced products.

By committing to only using Fairtrade goods, our church acts in solidarity with farmers and workers across the World. Find out more about The Fairtrade Foundation and Fairtrade Churches.

Please read the Diocesan Support and Prayer for Ukraine from Bishop Patrick

From the Catholic Social Action Network (CSAN)

The CSAN Ukraine Toolkit will be continually updated as more information is released by HM Government and other agencies regarding the support of Ukrainians arriving in this country. While there are a few options, CSAN has decided to back Reset, with its experience of community sponsorship and knowledge in the field. Parishioners who are applying to host are advised to best link with an organisation with refugee experience and to use the Reset ‘matching’ service, which also has a place for Ukrainian people to register.
